“If there were classes in the school, Alkis would be alive today”: A discussion with the members of the structure created in his memory

One of the first ideas was therefore the establishment of a Panhellenic fan day on February 1 each year. In September 2022, an official application was sent to the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports. Finally, 15 months later, in connection with the adoption of the bill to combat fan violence in sports, the request of the structure was accepted and voted up by all three hundred deputies.

“It’s more than just an important day for all of us. It’s a huge achievement in memory of Alkis and all the children who have left because of fan violence in Greece over the years,” notes Ioannis Vaganov. Both he and Lefteris Pappas are particularly steep in relation to the fact that the specific proposal was adopted unanimously.

“First of all, I want to say a big thank you to Sokratis Famellos, the chairman of the parliamentary group of SYRIZA, who presented the case to the parliament. I would also like to thank Thessaloniki’s deputies, Theodoros Karaoglou and Anna Efthymiou, for the impetus they provided. The impressive thing, of course, is that the opposition amendment was accepted, something I don’t know if it’s ever happened before,” adds Lefteris Papas.

The parliamentary representative of SYRIZA, Theofilos Xanthopoulos, also stated this during the debate on the bill, pointing out that it is a historic event for the country’s political events.

“This is a very important moment for the Greek parliament, in my second term in parliament I do not remember that an opposition amendment has ever been accepted by the government, and it appears, at least at the level of intention – regardless of differences and differences – that fight all together as much as possible to face this monster of violenceā€ he declared from his seat.

Vote of its adoption Panhellenic Fan Day it happened on the morning of February 1st. Today marks two years since Alki’s murder. The meeting with the members of the structure took place after the memorial events at the place where he lost his life.

The place was filled with candles, flowers, scarves from each team and banners that read: “The moose lives”. Among those present were four small children. Leandros, Giannis, Spyros and Maya. Four kids who may support different teams, but who have one thing in common: they love football.

A few minutes later, Alki’s father, Aristidis Kampanos, was also there and spoke to everyone personally. Standing in front of Yiannis, who supports AEK, he asked him: “do you like Araucho?” and smiled.
