The end of an intense weekend for Horner, which ended with a dominant victory and indeed a 1-2 for Red Bull at the Bahrain Grand Prix, was marked by an unexpected development. The elder Verstappen publicly called for Horner’s removal from his position.

Horner was investigated by energy drink company Red Bull after a female employee complained about him. An eight-week investigation into his conduct concluded last Wednesday, with Red Bull rejecting the allegations and exonerating Horner. Less than 24 hours later, a move appeared to be aimed at forcing Horner to resign: anonymous emails were sent to top F1 officials, including team principals and the media, revealing the alleged evidence at the heart of the case.

Horner held off the storm to lead Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to a perfect start to the new F1 season for the team on Saturday in Bahrain. However, it is clear that there is still tension among his close associates, with Verstappen senior now increasing the pressure for Horner’s exit.

Son Verstappen’s strong statements are particularly important because of the huge influence he has on his son, and also the influence Max has on the team as he prepares to attempt his fourth world championship.

There have been strong rumors that Verstappen’s son has been involved behind the scenes to have Horner removed from his role at Red Bull. However, this is something he himself denies: “It wouldn’t make sense. Why would I do that when Max is doing so well here?».
