Solskjær: “Ronaldo asked not to play and then complained, United rejected Haaland twice”

In Overlap’s “Stick to Football” show, Ole Gunnar Solskjær spoke and mentioned, among other things, his former footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo and his compatriot, Erling Haaland.

Apocalyptic Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Norwegian was a guest on Overlap’s ‘Stick to Football’ show and referred, among other things, to his former Manchester United player, Cristiano Ronaldo, who had asked not to play and then… complained.

“Part of Cristiano’s transfer was to get his passion, but that’s what he had for his intricacies. Greenwood, Rashford and Martial could all learn from him. He’s the best, the most disciplined and the best player in the world and you think he will help them.

When he came to the club, he told me to start him for three games in a row and then bench him for the fourth game, but he is so passionate that when I did that, he didn’t like that.

While I was manager of Manchester United, I don’t remember many problems from Cristiano Ronaldo. I remember in the Everton game when he came straight off the pitch after I replaced him, but there were more problems with him after I left the club.

I had a good relationship with Cristiano and there is a lot of respect between us. I think he handled his frustrations very well when I was there.” Solskjaer said.

The Norwegian also spoke about his compatriot, Erling Haaland and emphasized that Manchester United turned him down twice before he left Dortmund for City.

“I had Haaland in Molde for two seasons. In the summer before I went to United, I called the team and said they have to get this kid. He will be one of the top. It was June-July 2018 and they said.. no. They had several reports for footballers and then he was sold to Salzburg.

I again asked the club to sign him immediately when he had a release clause. We knew that, and no one else would give the money – 20 million, it would be a huge opportunity. It was the team’s decision not to continue with this. We didn’t make an offer for him until he started scoring with Salzburg. Until then, Borussia Dortmund was there, Juventus was there, everyone was there.” said the 51-year-old coach.
