Slag. Grudziądz and Chorzów in the SEC series. The stakes are high

The Tauron Speedway Euro Championship is getting closer and closer to the Speedway Grand Prix series. Especially in the 2024 season, when permanent wild cards to fight for the world championship were given to non-obvious candidates. We mean primarily Kai Huckenbeck and Andrzej Lebedev, because Dominik Kubera has shown with his performances in previous years that he deserves another chance. The only minor controversy was the fact that he would take part in the Grand Prix instead of Maciej Janowski.

If we add two more surprises from the Grand Prix Challenge, i.e. players such as Szymon Woźniak and Jan Kvech, it is easy to say that the field, at least on paper, seems to be weaker than in previous years. On the other hand the SEC cycle is growing stronger. This year’s competition will certainly feature speedway riders who will combine the competition for the European Championship with the fight for the World Championship.: Leon Madsen, Mikkel Michelsen and Andrzej Lebiedev. There are also two Poles: Patryk Dudek and Janusz Kołodziej.

SEC. Jacek Frątczak talks about raising the sports level

Jacek Frątczak, former manager of Falubaz Zielona Góra and Apator Toruń, is already looking forward to this tournament. – The level is higher every year, and the opportunity for the European champion to ride in the Grand Prix series was particularly crucial for improving the sporting level.. This meant that some top-class players decided to fight and guarantee their promotion in this way, as evidenced by the permanent successes of Mikkel Michelsen, top places of Leon Madsen and great performances of Janusz Kołodziej – says Frątczak.

– The path to promotion to the Grand Prix through the SEC series is absolutely crucial here. Looking at which names left the Grand Prix after the 2023 season and announce an attempt by the SEC to return, the competition will be very attractive. It could be a spectacular event. I mean the sports level and potential of these names. The stakes alone guarantee great emotions. The sieve is dense because only the European champion, i.e. one player, will advance – he adds.

Polish SEC locations: Grudziądz and Chorzów

The cycle consists of four rounds. The fight for the European championship will take place in Debrecen (June 8), Grudziądz (July 20), Gustrow (August 24) and at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów (September 21). Our interlocutor liked the idea of choosing these two Polish locations.

– There are different opinions after the reconstruction of the track in Grudziądz, when it comes to racing attractiveness. However, I believe that it offers opportunities, you just need to be well-adjusted. On the one hand, he loves this track, and on the other, he hates it. Sports quality is crucial, I expect excellent racing – says Frątczak.

The main course will be the final in Chorzów. – Everything here depends on the organizers, but let’s remember that this will not be a debut. Conclusions from previous editions will certainly be drawn. I mean geometry and surface. I remember that the last competition at the Silesian Stadium provided a lot of cool and attractive speedway – emphasizes the expert.

– Taking into account the prestige and building PR, ending the cycle with an artificial track is an interesting idea. After the National Stadium in Warsaw, the Silesian Stadium is a strong two in our country. I’m really glad. I think we will witness speedway at the highest sports level. The quality should not be inferior even to the 2024 Grand Prix – he sums up.
