LIVE foreign football | Club record for Leverkusen after win without Frimpong, AS Roma van Huijsen back

with summaryThere are also quite a few nice games in foreign stadiums on Sunday’s schedule. Naturally, the cracker in England between Liverpool and Manchester City was the most impressive. In Spain, leaders Real Madrid easily beat Celta, while in Germany Bayer Leverkusen set a club record. All eyes in Amsterdam were focused mainly on the Aston Villa match. Conference League rivals lost to Tottenham Hotspur. Check out the schedule, standings and results below.

Micky van de Ven injury

Mickey van de Ven appears to have suffered another muscle injury. The 22-year-old defender had to come off shortly after half-time against Ajax’s rivals Aston Villa. It is not yet clear what exact injury Van De Ven is suffering from, but it looks like Van de Ven will have to miss international matches with the Netherlands national team in March.

Aston Villa see fourth place in danger

Aston Villa suffered a costly defeat in the battle for fourth place in the Premier League. Ajax’s rival in the Conference League lost the home match against Tottenham (0-4).

Aston Villa are still fourth in the table, but Tottenham are only 2 points behind. The London club have also played one less game than Aston Villa. The number 4 of the Premier League can participate in the Champions League next season.

Leaders PSG drop points

Paris Saint-Germain dropped points again in Ligue 1. The leaders were held to a draw (2-2) at home to Stade de Reims. PSG also failed to win their previous games in the competition against AS Monaco (0-0) and Stade Rennes (1-1). However, PSG remain comfortably at the top. The table leaders have a ten-point lead over second-placed Stade Brest, who lost to RC Lens (1-0) on Saturday.

PSG fell behind due to a goal by Marshall Munetsi (0-1). Younis Abdelhamid then slotted past his own Stade de Reims keeper and Gonçalo Ramos scored to make it 2-1. The second goal of the visitors was scored by Umar Diakite (2-2).

PSG did not start in the strongest possible shape. Coach Luis Enrique allowed only Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Randal Kolo Muani to enter the final phase.

Mikautadze helps Metz to victory

Ajax loanee George Mikoutatze played an important role for Metz on Sunday. The penultimate Ligue 1 side played bottom-of-the-table Clermont Foot. The Georgian was responsible for the only goal of the match. Mikautaj converted a penalty on the ropes after more than half an hour. With the win, Metz are now two points below the relegation zone.

Milan sees the Champions League approaching

Milan look set to be in the running for the Champions League main event again next season. Coach Stefano Pioli’s team scored a narrow victory over Empoli at home: 1-0. Milan passed number 2 Juventus and now have 12 points more than number 5 Roma. Juventus and Roma still play on Sunday. The top four clubs in Serie A qualify for the Champions League.

Meijer in the playoffs with Club Brugge

Bjorn Meijer secured a place in the play-offs for the national title with Club Brugge. The former FC Groningen defender scored his team’s third goal in the home match against OH Leuven (3-1). The 20-year-old Major also played a role in the tie (1-1), an own goal by Tobe Leysen.

Club Brugge are third in top-flight Belgian football, on the basis of better goal difference than Antwerp, who, along with leaders Union and Anderlecht, were already guaranteed a place in the play-offs for the national title.

Union lost points to AA Ghent in front of their home crowd: 1-1. Peter Gerkens gave Ghent the lead in the early stages of the second half. Alessio Castro-Montes equalized in the 65th minute. Union face the tough task of overturning a 3-0 deficit at home to Fenerbahce in the Conference League eighth final on Thursday.

Real Madrid also beat Celta

Real Madrid also won the home match against Celta. The La Liga leaders triumphed 4-0. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Vicente Guaita and Carlos Dominguez then scored own goals and substitute Arda Guler set up the final score.

Real Madrid maintain a 7-point lead over Girona, who already beat Osasuna 2-0 on Saturday. Barcelona remains number 3 in the Spanish league after Friday night’s victory over Real Mallorca (1-0). The Catalans have 8 points less than Real Madrid.

Club record for Leverkusen

Leaders Bayer Leverkusen easily won 2-0 against ten men from Wolfsburg. With their 25th consecutive league match unbeaten since the start of the season, manager Xabi Alonso’s successful formation improved the club’s record from the 2009/2010 season.

Leverkusen striker Florian Wirtz hit the post midway through the first half, after which Wolfsburg’s Moritz Jenz saw his second yellow card within half an hour. The hosts took advantage of the numerical superiority in the 37th minute. Nathan Tella, replacing the suspended Jeremie Frimpong, headed home after good work from Álex Grimaldo, 1-0.

Leverkusen took it easy in the second half, but Wolfsburg rarely got close to the home side’s penalty area. The leader decided the game in the 86th minute. On a pass from Ezekiel Palacios, Virts volleyed into the small corner, 2-0.
