Letter from the Mayor of Thessaloniki to UEFA President Alexander Ceferin regarding Bruges-PAOK

The mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, sent a letter to the president of UEFA, Alexander Ceferin, on the occasion of what took place in Belgium on the sidelines of the match between Bruges and PAOK.

In his letter, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Angeloudiscondemns the attitude of the Belgian authorities who, as he says, “attacked heads of families, members of the Greek Parliament, but also of the municipal council, arrested and excluded people who had a legal right”.

Continuing, Mr. Angeloudis notes that “for us in the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the safety of the fans Club Brugge who will visit our city these days is the absolute priority. Our concern is to defuse and solve problems instead of creating bigger ones.

However, we would like to draw your attention to the request and carefully evaluate the complaints of his fans PAOKbecause football is an opportunity to celebrate and share experiences and not fans as default criminals.

We consider it obvious that you will do what is necessary to be held ACCOUNTABLE for what took place in Belgium at the expense of its fans PAOK“, the letter concludes.

Mayor of Bruges: “Don’t provoke the Greek fans”

At the same time the mayor of Bruges, Dirk De Fou, through his statements on a Belgian website, he expressed his own fear that PAOK fans will try to retaliate in Thessaloniki after the unacceptable and racist behavior of the police in his city towards the Greeks last Thursday, asking them to be ” on guard” and to be careful”.

“I urge Bruges fans to be careful and alert. I fear reprisals. Do not travel without a valid ticket and definitely do not provoke the Greek fans”, were his typical words.
