Big stars went there. Is this the end of this stadium?

Some time ago we reported that Masarna Avesta, a well-known Swedish speedway club, was experiencing great problems. Of course, the main reason was and is finances, or rather the lack thereof. Just four years ago, Masarna was the Swedish team champion. However, these are basically prehistoric events, if we take into account what is happening there now. Recent reports say that the club is at risk of homelessness because the stadium may be sold.

Tony Rickardsson, for example, was the best player in history at Masarna for many years (Bartosz Zmarzlik will probably beat him soon). The great Swedish champion is still strongly associated with this club. Antonio Lindbaeck, who was once appointed as Rickardsson’s successor, also traveled there a lot. For various – mainly non-sporting – reasons, he did not succeed and probably will not succeed, because he turns 39 this year.

Another blow for speedway. The stadiums are disappearing one by one

Unfortunately, there is a very visible tendency to close down speedway tracks in Europe. In 2023, the famous Peterborough and Wolverhampton were closed. A lot of fans came to say goodbye to the second center, many of them cried. In Great Britain, a lot of facilities have been closed in recent years, but this place has always been considered the cradle of speedway sport.. Meanwhile, what is happening there is terrible.

In Sweden it’s not that bad, but they have their problems there too. One of them is, for example, the situation of the above-mentioned Masarna. However, local activists also lose sleep over the fact that there are no young speedway riders talented enough to be able to fight with the world’s best. They may be doing well among juniors, but if someone is to be a star of this sport, they must also show their skills in fighting with seniors from an early age.
