How a DNA test made neo-Nazi Frank Meeink renounce his ideas and become a devout Jew.
A neo-Nazi who was the inspiration for his character Edward Norton in the movie American History X he managed to turn his life around and reconnect with his Jewish heritage.
THAT Frank Meeink he was the leader of a hardliner neo-Nazi gang in the 1990s. In fact, the then young neo-Nazi had marked his neck with a swastika. At that time, Mr Meeink he was deeply racist and anti-Semitic, believing and spreading everywhere that Jews were “the root of all evil”.
His racist speech and savage attacks on immigrants and Jewish women he was sent to prison. Everything changed there. While behind bars, Meeink he revised too many things and decided to leave his ideas and start a new life. During his detention in the correctional facility, he made many immigrant friends and thus managed to stay away from skinhead prisoners.
After his release from prison, Mr Meeink he began to fight fascism and Nazism, including lecturing at universities and schools to teach about the dangers of adopting such ideas.
However, the big lesson for him Meeink came a few months after he got out of her prison. A friend of his advised him to take a special DNA test after noticing that his appearance had Jewish elements.
He told the New York Post: “I just wanted to see if it was real. It turned out that I had some Jewish heritage of 2.4%. It’s a very small percentage, but still very important to my later life. ” Meeink.
He found out that his great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Zellman Rementer was Jewish. This discovery forever changed the life of the 48-year-old, who went from being a neo-Nazi to a devoted and fanatical Jew.
So today, Meeink spreads Judaism and prays three times a day wearing tallit and tefillin, which is worn by the most fanatical Jews. She also goes to synagogue, keeps kosher and takes three of her college classes Torah every week.
