The football map of Cyprus at the time…

Almost 90 years after the start of the first pan-Cypriot league, the football map of Cypriot football has changed greatly.

Over the years, teams disbanded, others joined to create other teams, and others were transferred to another federation. Teams that have written their name in golden letters in the history book of Cypriot football.

Young Trust Union (1924-1938)

Cetin Kaya (1930-1955)

This decision followed the decision of the SEGAS Cyprus Local Committee (TESK), which called on the gymnastics associations not to give their stadiums to Turkish teams for football matches. Following the KOP decision, the same day the Turkish Cypriots established their own football association to organize championships with the participation of Turkish Cypriot teams from all over Cyprus.

The Turkish Cypriot teams never again played official matches against Greek Cypriot teams. The last official match between a Turkish Cypriot and a Greek Cypriot team was the match HikingCetin Kaya to the semi-final stage of the 1954–55 Cyprus Cup (4–1).

Larnaca Walking Club (1924-1994)

For 51 seasons competing in its competitions COP won 2 championships and one cup, lost another 7 finals and two Pakku Shield finals. The team from Larnaca had competed 7 times in European cups, but without managing to qualify.

In 1994, Mr Hiking permanently merged with EPA after several attempts in the past and this time there was no reestablishment which created it AEK Larnaca.

EPA (1932-1994)

Another traditional force of its time, the EPA with a total of 9 trophies it is a big part of Cypriot football. AMOL Hiking Union of Larnaca or EPA Larnaca was a football team based in Larnaca.

It was founded in 1932. The team’s colors were yellow and black. Its establishment EPA aimed at uniting the sports and especially football forces in Larnaca to create a strong team that would worthily represent Larnaca in the various leagues.

THAT EPA had won 3 Cypriot championships, 5 Cypriot cups in 8 finals and 1 Pakku Shield, being the sixth most successful team in winning trophies in Cypriot football. It is one of the founding clubs of the Cyprus Football Association.

Larnakeis made 50 appearances in the Cyprus A’ division. In the period 1970-71, it participated in the first national championship of Greece, as it was the champion of Cyprus in the previous season.

THAT EPA have participated three times in European football cups without achieving any qualification. The team in 1994 along with Hiking merged to create it AEK Larnacawith the aim of creating a major football force from Larnaca.

APOP by Kinyra Peyia (2003-2012)

His story AOP of Kinyra Peyia it is probably one of the nicest stories, as within 9 years of operation it won a cup, but it came to a very abrupt end, which led to the dissolution of the team.

THAT AOP of Kinyra was created in 2003 by its consolidation PDO for Peyia and His Kinyra Embassies. THAT AOP of Kinyra took the place of Kinyra Empas in the 3rd division. In his first appearance in the A’ division, in the 2005–06 season, he finished in twelfth place and was relegated to the B’ division. In the following season, he won the B-class championship and was promoted to the A-class. It remained in the A’ division for four consecutive seasons.

Winning the trophy guaranteed the team the right to participate in the 3rd qualifying round of the 2009–10 UEFA Europa League. The opponent was Rapid Vienna. During the championship, he received a deduction of another three points. In addition, shortly after the end of the championship, he received an additional deduction of three points. This resulted in being from fifth place to twelfth place, leading to the 3rd category.

In the summer of 2012 FIFA decided to relegate the team to a lower category due to debt. Thus APOP Kinyras would participate in the 4th category for the 2012-13 season. In fact, he would start the championship with a six-point deduction. However, on 6 August 2012, it was announced that he was leaving the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) and the team was subsequently disbanded.

Alki of Larnaca (1948-2014)/ Alki of Oroklinis (2014-2023)

THAT Alki Larnaca was a sports club from Larnaca. It was founded on 10 April 1948. The union’s colors were red and blue. The Larnaca team had participated in 5 Cyprus Cup finals but failed to win any of them. In the championship, the best place he finished was 3rd in the 1978-1979 season.

The team made 43 appearances in the Cyprus A’ division and was in twelfth place in the relevant rankings. In addition, in 1979 it participated for the only time in a European competition, in the UEFA Cup 1979-1980. Alki hold a rare Cypriot world record in the Cyprus Cup, having qualified for the quarter-finals and beyond (semi-finals, finals) in 15 consecutive competitions.

The Larnaca team may not have managed to win a trophy, but they have always been a very respectable and deserving team for the opposition. At the end of the 2013-2014 season, the association’s general assembly decided that due to financial problems, the team could not participate in the new B’ division championship. That is, with a letter from her to COP dated 6 May 2014, Alki announced that he is leaving the association. And then “Immortal” collapsed.

However, as Alki was “Immortal”, in 2014 merged with Omonia Oroklinis, renamed Alki Orokliniand then he came back to life. Her first season as Alki Oroklinis managed to move up from the 4th to the 3rd division and win the championship. In the next two seasons he got 2 consecutive promotions and a cup in low categories and returned to the salons in the A’ category.

THAT Alki remained in A’ for two seasons, and after 2 seasons in B’ division, in April 2023 he suspended the operation of the team’s football department for financial reasons. It withdrew from the B’ division championship for the 2022-23 season before it was even completed, leaving Alki fans to see their team disbanded for the second time in 10 years.
